Book Review: Percy Jackson & the Sea of Monsters

I finally got around to buying the next book in the Olympian series and decided to continue my review of the books (it makes a change from DDO blogs!) Again, I shall try not to give away any of the plot but I will assume you have read the first book.

This book picks up at the end of the next school year. Percy is looking forward to returning to the summer camp where the half blood sons & daughters of the Greek gods are trained. On the last day of school he and his new friend are attacked, his pal from the last book Annabeth, daughter of Athena, suddenly appears to help out and Percy discovers that things are very wrong at Camp Half-Blood.

This book continues on nicely from the first story, building on the characters we have already met and introducing new ones. The ‘bad guy’ from the first book is still around and with more information given about a prophecy that may be about Percy we get the impression that this will be the story arc for the series. More characters and creatures from Greek myth are brought into play. If nothing else, these books would be a great way to get a child interested in mythology as an easy introduction to them.

This book ends with a nice twist ( no I won’t ruin it for you 🙂 ) which immediately made me want to go buy the next one. This book is also fairly short and an easy read, ideal for the younger audience, but certainly enjoyable for adults too.

Have fun, see you around!
