Thoughts on the New Gianthold

Like probably 90% of the DDO population, yesterday I logged on and ran straight to Gianthold πŸ™‚ It seems… bigger! Please note there may be mild spoilers in this blog. Do not read if you want to find out for yourself!

If you’ve not been out there yet – be warned that NPC’s have been shifted around a lot. It took most of the night for one of my guildies to remember where the Farshifter was now located!

We ran the three flagging missions and Tor during the evening. I really wanted to try the raid, but the earliest I get a chance to do that will now be Friday. Maybe I’ll just flag another character and wait for the DG guys at the weekend πŸ™‚

So, the flagging missions (all run on eH with 3 x monks, 1 x sorceror):-

Cabal for One
Hasn’t really changed that much. In fact the only noticeable difference is the uber trap behind the wall – is no longer uber!

Madstone Crater
Turbine are learning! That first chest that you fight through a few waves of trash to get through when you first enter? Nope, not any more. Not available until you get back to the starting point after doing the three crystals. But I really like that you can now get to the ledges above the Seers at crystals 2 & 3.

Prison of the Planes
The main body of this mission hasn’t changed. Good news – the first room has been fixed πŸ™‚ The marilith Princess Aurelia hits even harder…. nasty… And the end fight is a bit different… πŸ™‚

Tor
So, this has changed in a few ways, but the structure is basically the same. The real difference is found at the end of the quest. Hopefully the screenshot below doesn’t give too much away.

The dragons are still optional, but we ran the black dragon. The fight was definitely a challenge, but it was fun & we finished it πŸ™‚ I spent a lot of time flying through the air lol Our sorc guildie did a great job of scroll healing (because Wyoh & Albus just.. just.. >.<)

Wilderness Area
The changes are subtle in places, very obvious in others. The giants seem very aware of you πŸ™‚ Unfortunately I did not come across any dragons, I only saw the one flying around…

Loot.. well.. we all picked up a lot of gems. It’s been mentioned already on the forums. But I did pull a Dream Visor which I shall be passing to my artificer. And a guildie pulled the Epic Helm of the Black Dragon, which he was very pleased with πŸ™‚

Have fun, see you around! And watch out for those giants πŸ˜›

  1. Awesome πŸ™‚ I’d love more spoilers cause it will be ages until i am back out in gianthold. Too much other content taking all my time up lately, so its heaps nice to read whats happening out there. Good luck on some more loot rolls.

  2. The giants are very aware. We had one guy join late and decided to invis and run to us. After about 10sec dungeon alert was already at yellow and by the time he could see us we were at full red alert and it was a mad stomp fest.

  3. This noob only arrived there yesterday with a monk:) First time to set feet on the giant’s soil, and I like it already. I read through your article because I like spoilers mixed with my history:) Well done!!
