Kicking Off 2023

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a good Christmas/New Year/time off work – depending on how you look at the holiday season 😀

My New Year’s resolution (for what it’s worth) is to try and blog more, both here and over on my tech site. I did a terrible job with blogging last year – and what is the point of paying for these sites if I don’t use them? So, fingers crossed I can do better this year.

2022 was busy in terms of “real-life stuff” which meant that we only had a chance to play DDO a few days a week. Gone are the days when we played just about every day, and all weekend. However, some reasonable progress has been made. Hymm is trying to finish off the Iconic and Racial reincarnations he has left to get. Rach is doing the same with her main character, Willowing, although she is a few lives behind Hymm.

We have just finished off our latest Racial lives, Hymm was a Gnome Alchemist and Willowing a Dragonborn Sorceror. Do you know what happens when a Sorceror and Alchemist walk into a dungeon?

Everything dies 😀

Ravenloft

I’m sure I won’t be the first or last DDO blogger to cover Ravenloft. I may even do some more on the new expansion pack, as we only had a chance to run 3 of the available 12 quests when we stepped in for the first time last night. Note for anyone who has not looked at the new quests there may be some minor spoilers.

OK, so, disclaimers! We ran the quests at Heroic Elite (level 12) and we are currently level 14. We’ve not read anything about the new quests/areas and didn’t try the Lammania preview.

TR, Site & App

TR

This blog is well over a week late – because we TR’d last weekend after completing our last set of lives (mine a Druid, Rach a Ranger). That was (thankfully) my last Druid life. I can’t say I’ve really enjoyed any of them, apart from the use of the Earthquake spell.

31 down, 11 to go….

If I’ve counted correctly that is.

We capped our current lives this weekend. This life I have run a pure Ranger, with Rach running her mostly Druid with a bit of Rogue & Wizard. The combination has worked out really well (again!). Once we got to a higher level especially, as Rach would Earthquake the mobs while I picked them off. They didn’t really have a chance 😀

Life 30 and Stuff

Hey peeps, long time no blog   🙂 Since I’m too tired to revise this lunch time I thought I’d throw an impromptu blog your way.

Hymm capped life 30 a few weeks ago now. Obviously Rach capped her main, Willowing, too – but I’ve no idea what life she is on. (I’m fairly sure she doesn’t know either   😛 ). I know in my last blog (oh so long ago) I said I intended to do 15 Wizard/5 Warlock but when I actually started the build process and looking at the spells I would lose – I changed my mind. So I went with a pure Deep Gnome Wizard with focus in Illusion, with Necomancy second. I had a fine old time running around and PK’ing and FoD’ing stuff   🙂

Too many things to do!

So, things have been a bit hectic both in game and in real life over the last month or so. My apologies for the lack of blogs 😉 If it’s any consolation, I have another 2 planned that I hope to get out this week.

Hymm

In DDO, I’ve been ploughing through the levels with Hymm again. He’s now on life 28. Which means I completely failed to blog about how the Morninglord life worked out, nor about the Warlock life after that!

The Morninglord life was OK. Not huge DPS, not huge healing, but the aura ticked over nicely and I could hold my own in fights. A handy build for getting a cleric life without being a cleric 🙂

DDO – 2015 Review

I should be revising for an upcoming exam, but it’s approaching the end of my Christmas holidays and I really don’t feel like it. So screw it, you guys get a blog instead 😀

2015 has been quite a busy year for DDO and for my DDO characters. So how did it do?

U25 – Reign of Elemental Evil

When this content came out, I loved it. I like Wil Wheaton and was pleasantly surprised when it turned out he was GM’ing the new content. The quests, though long, were fun and sometimes I really like a ton of bad guys to massacre. Continue reading

Starting a Melee Warlock…

Due to an unfortunate incident with Rach taking the day off work, leaving her keys in my car and my driving off to work after locking her in the apartment this morning – I got to take the afternoon off work. Which resulted in two quests in Stormhorns being run and us capping this life 😛

20 minutes later, we have the last of the favour obtained for House K & the Coin Lords, 10 minutes later we have our TR cache cleared. And I finally sold all the rune arms I had kept {just in case} even though I’ve done all three artificer lives – so that helped 🙂

Last Bard Life

I’ve not had much chance to play over the last few weeks, but when we have squeezed in the odd hour we’ve made the most of it. Rachel’s pure Paladin that I am running with has already proven it’s a rock in both heroic and epic quests. For my last bard life on the path to triple completionist I decided to try a variation of a build fellow guildie Tobril has been running for his epic past lives.

The build is 3 rogue / 4 fighter / 13 bard. I went with a Shadar Kai race and focused on INT as my main stat, using the Harper tree enhancements to make this my damage stat. The build has proved to be really good. If you caught Samius’ Twitch stream last Friday you might have heard him mention the fact we were happy with our builds enough to run eE. We don’t normally bother. We’re more than happy to run eH so we can get through quests in a good time and not spend forever in an eE version of the quest. But this pairing has blitzed through eE quests without any real trouble. Yes there have been some deaths ( mainly me 😀 ) but it’s never been a problem.
