Epic Hymm

I’ve had a couple of busy weeks so I haven’t had a chance to get a blog up recently. Not that I think you’ve all been sat there, waiting, for my next installment of exciting adventures 😛

But here you go anyway. Warning I’ve got a lot of pictures in this one 🙂

Weekly Catch Up

Firstly – I seem to have lost all imagination when it comes to naming my blogs – so sorry about that!

Another exciting week of stuff 🙂 Well, for me anyway!

I spent a lot of time on Orien Mon-Thur. Hop over to Micki’s page to see what we did. It was nice to get more of a run around with my monk on there… and we managed an excellent job of synchronised meditation in VoN3 😛

Christmas Blog

OK, there’s nothing actually Christmassy about this blog, apart from the fact it’s Christmas Day tomorrow 😉 But, Merry Christmas to you all, hope Santa brings you all the loot you want!

This week in DDO has been fairly steady. I’ve run on Orien Monday & Thursday. Check out Micki’s blog for all our exciting adventures 🙂

Hymm, who I class as my main (and favourite) character has now taken level 16 and thanks to a run of House C challenges on Sunday has caught up with my guildmates and has level 17 banked.

Caught in the Web – Finally!!

I did suggest, via twitter, that I might do something different for my blog covering yesterdays events. However, I didn’t get it finished. In fact, I think it might take longer than I expected. So I’ll keep working on it & hopefully have it for you in a few weeks. Then again, it will probably end up on the pile of things I have to do, along with iPhone apps, 2 novels, floors I need to put down… 🙂

So instead – my normal format.

Yesterday was our now normal weekend routine. We ran around with our TR characters until mid afternoon when the Defense Guild members turned up. We didn’t actually get that much done with the TR’s, but it was possibly the easiest Crucible run we’ve done yet. I think I may have run round that maze way too many times 🙂 And Hymm has now taken level 16.

Mabar

Well, like everyone else, I’ve been hitting Mabar for the past two nights, using my dark monk (level 25). I know some of my guild mates are getting a bit bored of it already, but I like the mindless violence of it 🙂

Amyway, it seems the drops have been quite lacking (imho) so last night I jumped onto Orien with my level 8 light monk, 30 minutes later I had triple the items dropped than on my Sarlona dark monk, and a key.

Except I’ve realised this morning that I’ve completely screwed up the experiment.

  • I wasn’t in a party
  • I was on a different server
  • There didn’t seem to be a lot of people in the graveyard – probably because the dragon had just opened up when I logged on

So I have no idea if I’ll get a higher drop rate with a lower level character on Sarlona ‘sigh’. And now, because I have stuff on my Orien character, I feel I should at least try and get him a pair of handwraps.

So I’ve just made extra work for myself – nicely done!

Good job I like the mindless violence 🙂

A Night of Firsts…

Most of last week was spent getting characters flagged for raids. We’ve been all organised. I put a spreadhseet together and everything…. 🙂

Anybody who read mine or Samius blog from the start of the week will know that my guild, Heros of the Dragons Wrath, has been teaming up with the Defense Guild. Due to the time difference the only real time we get to group up is weekends, their mornings coinciding with our mid-afternoons.

Saturday we had a quick run around. Samius had things to do so after a quick run of Madstone Crater, he left and 3 of us ran around with Tobril in Eveningstar. We blasted through the Druids Deep chain on eH, with only a slight hiccup with the quest Thorn and Paw when the last wall wouldn’t come down. Until my partner, Trapping (she likes rogues!) found a Red Musk zombie lurking in a bear pit and finished it off 🙂 No hag on the last mission, though, so no chance of Ivy Wraps, which was a shame.

By the time we finished the chain, Samius was back but we had to log off for the night.

Sunday, the DG guys (and gal) jumped on just as I was about to go sort food out. By the time I got back, they were running the DQ pre-raid, so my partner & myself jumped in for the end of that. Lailat goes down very nicely and we all pile back to Zawabi’s ready to go off and kick her butt again. Only to find that my partners cleric had already run the DQ raid and hadn’t reset the chain! But, the DG guys are happy to run the pre-raid again, another eN run in the hope for the odd seal or shard 🙂 Back to Zawabi’s again, into ADQ. I cannot remember if we did eN, or eH, but either way this was the first time we’ve run this raid on epic. In the past our guild have 4 manned it on normal, but this run was easy and smooth, with Samius tanking Lailat; Tobril, Torrance & Trapping DoT’ing; while I whack away with my fighter (when I’m not knocked on my arse).

eVoN is suggested next. One of our other guildies, jpedd, comes on with his sorc, I switch to Dimichaerii my dark monk, Trapping stays with her cleric. Now, we have actually done eVoN5 before, but it’s not one we run very often so we’re not that familiar with it. But, again, it was breezed through. Even short manning it we had plenty of people for pulling of levers & such. Also, I started using the US pronunciation of ‘lever’ – I’ll have to be careful with that 😀

And so we come to eVoN6. We’ve run this at heroic level, maybe twice before. Never at epic. Tobril gives us instructions and we’re off. It took us a bt of time to organise our Djinni killing, but we get there, take down the portals, regroup. Onto Velah. She looks awesome. I feel kind of guilty for hitting her 😦 But I want her loot, dammit 🙂 Down she goes. A few shards to the team and I get my first flawless Red Dragon Scale – nice.

We take a quick break, trying to decide what to do next. The brave people from Defense Guild agree to a ToD. Again, we’re shortmanning it and the three of us have never, ever, done a ToD before. (I know, it’s embarrassing that I’ve played this game for over 2 years and never had the nerve to join a group running this.) We get past the judge & the jailer, onto to the final fight, deciding not to try for the optional chest. Samius does a great job of tanking both Horoth & Suulomades while we beat down Horoth. Again, it goes really smooth 🙂 My partner gets a ring, I get some war trophies.

All in all, it was a great weekend. Fun runs, lots of XP, I really enjoyed myself. Thanks guys! Oh, and Turbine devs – I think you really need to make a mini Arraetrikos companion…

On a more serious note, Hurricane Sandy is due to hit the East Coast of the US today. Hope you guys keep yourselves safe! (Here’s hoping Turbine has those servers tied down…)

TR Train Comes Off the Tracks

Unfortunately, one of the guildies is having issues with his ISP. He has lost his internet and doesn’t expect it to be back for a few weeks. As we TR’d our characters as a whole guild, it seems a bit unfair for us to keep playing them while he’s not around.

Fortunately, I have plenty of other characters to work with 🙂

So, over the weekend, my partner helped me get my barbarian to cap (is 20 still cap? Oh well you know what I mean), where I promptly took my free LR to re-spec him. I always felt I’d not taken some of the feats I needed, missed a few enhancements. So this was a good point to correct that. Except that I stupidly picked the THF feat instead of the TWF feat {facepalm}. But, I took the TWF feat as well, continued the LR, then ran off to see Fred in House J to swap THF for Toughness 🙂

Last night, we ran with our second lot of TR’s. That is my fighter and my partners clonk. The whole idea of TR’ing these characters was to play them when nobody else was around. So I don’t feel guilty about playing them while my guildie gets himself sorted out. One of our other guildies jumped on with his druid and we had fun running Tear of Dhakaan with his ‘pack’.

My dark monk is working through his US epic destiny a bit at a time. But I haven’t played my high level fighter or artificer in weeks. I should really spend some time with them too……

Looking forward to Update 16, even though the Primal Avatar epic destiny reminds me of this old UK advert (and now I’m showing my age!!)

Have fun, see you around!

Easy Night

Due to various scheduling issues and previous appointments & commitments, my partner & I were the only ones one from our guild for most of last night.

We decided to run the first chain in Eveningstar with my level 24 monk (who has already done them) and her level 21 cleric (who she desperately wants to level up). And I realised that a) I had forgotten how pretty is is out in Kings Forest b) eN is quite easy….

It made a nice change from running our TR’s, who are now sitting at level 13 & 9 respectively. Because they are so close together I feel like I’m running the same missions over & over. Which is something I don’t really enjoy doing.

On Sunday night our guild decided to try eH Offering of Blood, something we’ve not tried running on epic before. There were only 4 (out of the 5) of us. It was going fairly well. There was a slight hiccup to procedures when we got to the second bridge, where the traps are, and realised the rock ledges around the side of the cave were no longer there 🙂 but we got past. Unfortunately, we completely wiped when we got to the last fight. The scorpions just stunned us over & over…. oh well. We have some ideas of what to do on our next attempt. And I definitely want to try it again, it’s something different, I’ve realised my monk is not flagged for ADQ (no idea how that happened!) and it was 45K XP!

See you around!

This week in DDO…

Well, nothing especially exciting has happened in the last week or so, but here’s a quick recap anyway.

Hymm, my 3rd lifer, is now a level 12 barbarian (I think I have level 13 banked… if not I’m close) and I’m happily running around bashing things over the head with great axes. The team has a nice combo going and we seem to be able to cover all the bases (healing, trapping, cc etc). We even did Hold for Reinforcements at level, on elite, over the weekend. I hate that guy… did you know a fire mephit only has to LOOK at him and he dies?!? However, kudos to my missus who spent the 15 minutes of the mission stood over Coyle with her paladin, healing as required, while we killed 🙂

My second 3rd lifer, Fyrne, is now a level 6 fighter. I’m getting good dps from him too. He’s not quite as much fun as the barbarian though… and I’m seriously considering LR’ing him to add a splash of rogue. This is partly because we are definitely lacking rogue skills from this group. And yes, I know, if you know where the traps are you should be able to avoid them etc but where’s the fun in that? Plus, I like the idea of having evasion. I think that sorts my lunch break at work out – playing with the character planner 🙂

My dark monk has finally switched epic destinies, from GMoF to LD. But I will be switching back every time I do anything that won’t be giving me much XP. Which gives me a reason to run Lord of Dust even more 🙂

On non DDO news, I’ve just picked up Drake 3 for the PS3 nice and cheap. I love Drake 1 & 2 and from what I’ve heard, 3 is just as good. So I may actually drag myself away from the PC for a bit when it gets delivered….. but I don’t imagine it will be for long 🙂

OK that’s me done for now. Hope you’re all having fun in game. See you around!

*** EDIT ***
Well, look at me forgetting the most important thing that has happened this week!

There’s a good chance we’ll hit level 70 again tonight, as I’m not sure we got enough of a buffer in place for todays decay to hit – but woohoo anyway 🙂

Random

I’m tired so todays blog will consist of random thoughts 🙂

My dark monk, Dimichaerii, has gone a slightly different route on his point spend in Grandmaster of Flowers in comparison to how I spent them on my light monk. I got the Drifting Lotus feat the other nght and I love it 🙂 Knocks bad guys on their arse, does great damage (on the mobs I’ve tried it against) and looks cool!

I’m listening to old episodes of DDOCast, currently at episode 133. I am taking bets with myself on how long it takes for Jerry to pronounce Samius’ name correctly. So far I’ve lost the bet twice 🙂

Episode 132 (I think) had a great segment by Xylosent (I’ve probably spelled that incorrectly!) about his love of DDO and what it means to him. This was recorded just before DDO went free to play, when it seems the now VIP’s were worried about how it would affect the game. But I think everything he said still holds true now. Check it out.

3rd life TR is going slow, but mainly because one of the guild is working late at the moment so we’re hanging on for him. Not that I mind – it means I get some epic runs in, or play with some of my less played characters. But the quest for the elusive Shard of the Envenomed Blade is still ongoing while running the U13 epics {sigh}

See you around!
