Life 29 Complete

Hey all. Apologies once again for the lack of blogs lately. Work is hectic and we seem to scarcely have a weekend to ourselves to just game lately. But Evennote and Citi are doing a fine job of putting out regular posts. If you don’t already follow them, check them out 🙂

Today saw Hymm and Willowing hit level 30 on what is Hymm’s 29th life. This was my 2nd fighter life and I went 12 fighter/8 rogue and back to my favourite style of play – quarterstaff fighter. It’s been a fun solid build, though I suspect it was made much easier by running with a pure Warlock, which is Rach’s third Warlock life. I think she’s looking forward to moving on to other builds – she’s actually kind of bored of the Warlock now (what?!?).

Othala the Warlock – Current Status

As I mentioned in a previous post, my Warlock Othala needs some changes. I would like to keep him as a Warlock, and capped, so I have someone I can pull out for guild epic/legendary raids on a weekend that I a) enjoy playing b) is useful. So I intend to Epic Reincarnate now he’s hit level 30 to correct some areas. But not necessarily straight away – I want to spend some time trying to gather gear.

This is his 3rd life, the previous lives being Artificer & Sorcerer. He is a Fey Pact Warlock and I use the Utterdark Blast to set his damage as sonic & evil. I already know I’ve made a mistake by not putting skill points into perform to increase his sonic spellpower {facepalm} so that’s one thing I will address with his epic TR. But I’d like to know if anybody has any other suggestions.

Life 26

If you follow my twitter account (I swear Tholgrin, I had that line drafted out before your blog!) then you’ll already know that we capped our main characters at the end of last week. I wasn’t sure we’d be able to do it without repeating some quests (I get bored repeating stuff – unless I’m really after a piece of gear in which case I will bore everybody silly re-running stuff) but Rach suggested we run the Eveningstar challenges when we were just short of XP for level 29. So, as level 28 characters we ran the challenges at level 30. Turns out 5 starring the challenges at that level gets you 116K XP per challenge – nice! So those got us to level 29 (and some). We got the rest of the way to 30 running the U29 quests in Meridia, the epic Orchard quests (I was sure we had already run them so that was a nice bonus when we realised we hadn’t) and two from the Heart of Madness chain.

Getting to grips with the Warlock

I’ve blogged about playing Warlock a few times now. Hymm has done 2 lives, 1 melee and one pure caster. I enjoyed the pure Warlock build so much I turned Othala into one. He is currently sitting at level 27 and will be staying as a Warlock for the foreseeable future.

So, I’ve started doing something I don’t normally do – start working out how I can make him as effective as possible and what gear I need to get him.

Character Plans for 2016

Over the Christmas and New Year period I’ve found myself switching between characters quite a lot. Due to the various states they are all in I’ve found myself a bit lost as to who has flagged for what, who is going where. So here’s the blog none of you asked for, something to try and help me focus on my character plans for 2016 in DDO.

Hymm

Hymm is still my main character and is still working towards triple completionist. Along the way, I intend to get all the Iconic Past Lives (probably more then I need to be honest) and Epic Completionist too.

Last Bard Life

I’ve not had much chance to play over the last few weeks, but when we have squeezed in the odd hour we’ve made the most of it. Rachel’s pure Paladin that I am running with has already proven it’s a rock in both heroic and epic quests. For my last bard life on the path to triple completionist I decided to try a variation of a build fellow guildie Tobril has been running for his epic past lives.

The build is 3 rogue / 4 fighter / 13 bard. I went with a Shadar Kai race and focused on INT as my main stat, using the Harper tree enhancements to make this my damage stat. The build has proved to be really good. If you caught Samius’ Twitch stream last Friday you might have heard him mention the fact we were happy with our builds enough to run eE. We don’t normally bother. We’re more than happy to run eH so we can get through quests in a good time and not spend forever in an eE version of the quest. But this pairing has blitzed through eE quests without any real trouble. Yes there have been some deaths ( mainly me 😀 ) but it’s never been a problem.

Finishing Off

This weekends bonus XP in DDO allowed me to get some characters finished off – finally!

Hymm

This life has definitely taken longer than usual, but there has been a lot of real life stuff to do so it was inevitable it would take a bit longer. However I capped Hymm’s 19th life on Friday. This has been my first barbarian life since the enhancement tree overhaul, and my first ever fully played halfling char. He has been a lot of fun to run, the speed of halflings, added with the speed boosts from barbarian, made quests zoom along 🙂 I’ve liked the changes to the barbarian, the self healing is very handy.

Artificer Life

Hymm is currently at level 16 with 17 banked and the life is going pretty well. The only upset was when I ran Foundation of Discord with Rach, and decided to jump in the hole with Patrick the Maniacal and his earth elementals while Rach went to answer the door….. yeah that wasn’t the best idea I’ve had 😛

Waiting for ‘mommy’ in Mired in Kobolds

Anyway, both Evennote & Erdique said the build sounded interesting, so for a laugh I’ve decided to post it (not something I usually bother with). It’s probably not the most effective build, but it is fun so far 🙂

Hymm: Life 8 to Life 9

Firstly my apologies for this blog. It will probably be short and boring. But I’ve been ill & still feel crappy. I’m mainly posting for consistency with updates on Hymm.

It’s only taken 3 weeks to get from level 15 to level 28, which is pretty fast (for me)! I worked out if I could keep that rate going I’d manage 17 lives this year. To be honest – I can’t see that happening 😀 I didn’t think I’d actually hit level 28 this weekend (see note about being ill above) but I managed a few hours over the weekend and, with the help of guildies & the 20% XP boost, capped last night.
